A fun little Judge Dredd piece, for your enjoyment.

Cthulhu
I love the Cthulhu mythos and fondly remember watching my sanity score plummet while playing The Call of Cthulhu way back when.
I found one of HP Lovecraft's concept sketches for Cthulhu and realised with a jolt that I needed more tentacle in my folio. Here he is in all his submarine glory.

Judge Death - Movie Style
Alex Garland stated in an interview that he saw Dredd as being the first movie in a trilogy that would see the introduction of Judge Death. With this is mind, here is what I think a movie Judge Death could look like.

Marian
Here's a quick sketch I did as part of a demonstration to Year 11 & 12 Visual Communications students at Marian College. This is about 40 minutes work, 30 in class with about ten minutes of fettling at home.

Cybermen
I am very much looking forward to Nightmare in Silver, the new Doctor Who episode penned by Neil Gaiman. Here are some of my Cybermen.
My latest sketch. This will form the basis of a polished illustration in the next little while.
I did this piece as part of a submission to the BBC to join the Dr Who art team (unsuccessful so far, but we live in hope).
Helmet close up.
Cyberweapon design. I love the 'Earthshock' Cyberman and this weapon is based around the 'Earthshock' cyberweapon.
Finally, this is a piece I did way back when I found out about the new Who season. The Earthshock lineage is very much in evidence in this image.

Blake's 7 redesigns
Whee! I've just heard the news that Syfy channel is remaking Blake's 7. It just so happens that I've been doing some designs for my own enjoyment!

Model Madness
I build models too. This is the 1/6 scale Judge Dredd from Halcyon that was released in the mid 90's. It was built out of the box except for the base. I scratchbuilt the gun as the kit supplied one looked like a vibrator with an egg timer attached.
Rogue Trooper
One of the classic British comic stories and a personal favourite of mine. Created by Dave Gibbons (of Watchmen fame) in the early 80's it tells the story of a Genetic Infantryman and his quest for justice on a war torn planet in the far future.
I wanted to show this to Dave Gibbons at Supanova yesterday, but the queue at his table was so long (composed almost entirely of Rorshach and Comedian cosplayers) and slow that it was more likely that the earth would fall into the sun before I got to the head of the line. Ah well, such is life.

Wonder Woman!
Wonder Woman, done for the Ozcomics weekly draw off. Open in a new tab to see the large version!
I set myself three challenges with this piece:
I set myself three challenges with this piece:
- Use the New 52 costume even though I prefer the 'classic' costume.
- Remember that I am NOT Adam Hughes and that I AM Simon Lissaman. Adam Hughes' WW work is truly beautiful.
- Do not make her look like a porn star. No sexy or contorted poses, no come hither eyes, no excitingly parted lips and no nipple bulge or camel toe. Just an Amazon princess.

Brilliant class starship - more views!
Some more views of my Brilliant Class design. I'm in the process of refining the model (built using Sketchup) with a view to pulling blueprints from it and building a physical model.
The overall shapes are where I want them to be. Engine nacelles and pylons are complete except for minor greebles. Engineering is next in line for attention as I detail the shuttle bay and cargo area. Lots of tidy up needed to make sure fillets terminate properly and to add all of the surface detail needed on a Trek ship i.e. lifeboat hatches, windows, phaser arrays, transporter emitters etc.

Brilliant Class Starship
The Brilliant Class Starship started life as a biro sketch done just after seeing 'Star Trek: Generations'. As we all know, Picard's Enterprise D was destroyed at the end of that film and sketched out a few ideas for the Enterprise E.
Fast forward 17 years and the sketch turns up in a cleanout. I look at it and think 'I should finish that'. Here is the end result.

Chelon Creature Design
My first critter of the year. I was noodling with the idea of evolved tortoise that could be used as a beast of burden.
Vulture concept
My first finished piece for 2013. This is a design for an Optionally Manned Aerial Vehicle (OMAV) from sometime later this century. I did the initial sketch on paper, built a study model in Sketchup and then did the painting in Photoshop.
T-Rex!
To kick off my new blog, I picked my favourite piece of 2012. I did this in a two hour Photoshop frenzy at CDW Wellington during Greg Broadmore's session.
